The Marguerite ring or Pompadour ring

History of the Marguerite ring

The Marguerite ring, also known as the Pompadour ring, takes its name from the first woman to wear it. The Marquise de Pompadour, favorite of King Louis XV.

It is thus during the 17th century that the story of this magnificent ring set with diamonds and a sapphire will unfold.

Marquise de Pompadour muse of the daisy ring

Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson met King Louis XV on February 25, 1745 at a masked ball held in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. The king immediately fell under her spell and has been meeting regularly with Jeanne-Antoinette since that day. He installed her in the Palace of Versailles on September 10, 1745 and gave her the Pompadour estate in the summer of the same year. This made her the Marquise de Pompadour.

The marquise had then at her orders all the artists of the kingdom. She was always looking for refinement and beauty in every work. She had solid judgment in the field, which allowed her to impose her artistic values. Louis XV had the Petit Trianon built for him, Marie Antoinette’s favorite stay thereafter, a true haven of peace with its botanical garden. It is here that she will have the idea of the Marguerite ring, in the shape of a flower.

This ring represents since then, all the good taste of French craftsmanship, both timeless and timeless.

The Marquise de Pompadour was also particularly fond of cameos, which she made fashionable in the 18th century.
